This research center investigates the escalation dynamics across the Taiwan Strait, the East China Sea approaches, the Luzon and Miyako gaps and the First Island Chain transit corridors. Published monthly from the IPSC signal corpus across five domains — alliance posture, crisis management, grey-zone activity, military activity and political signalling — with the classification protocol open to inspection.

Jurisdictional encirclement: Beijing builds a legal perimeter east of Taiwan
July 2026 was defined by Beijing's systematic conversion of coercive precedents into institutionalised facts. The dominant pattern was normalisation: actions previously treated as exceptional pressure tools were reframed as routine, lawful and permanent. China Coast Guard rotation east of Taiwan, the PLAN's 110-vessel First Island Chain mobilisation, the entry into force of the Ethnic Unity Law with its extraterritorial reach, and the Nanjing University lawfare claim over the Batanes Islands all reflect one coordinating logic — Beijing expanding the legal, physical and informational perimeter of what it asserts as sovereign space, incrementally and in parallel across domains. The diplomatic channel remained nominally open; Wang Yi called Rubio on 1 July. The content of that call was a warning, not a negotiation.
