This 3.5‑hour professional development module combines a one‑hour live intensive with 2.5 hours of structured asynchronous learning. It examines how export controls shape transactions, research collaboration, technology transfer, market access, supply chains, and institutional decision‑making in an increasingly contested strategic environment.

Module overview

This module examines how export controls operate across goods, software, technology, technical data, know‑how, and strategic technology relationships. Participants learn how to identify jurisdictional connections, assess controlled content, screen parties and end uses, and determine when an activity may proceed, requires authorisation, or should be paused.

These controls increasingly shape commercial partnerships, research collaboration, defence supply chains, and access to advanced technologies across the Indo‑Pacific. Exposure can arise even when no physical product crosses a border—for example, through cloud access, technical discussions, foreign employees, engineering support, or transfers between corporate affiliates.

Using the realistic Project Pacific Vector scenario, participants apply a structured assessment method and prepare a concise decision brief for senior leaders.
