Program Curriculum
Six weeks of guided geopolitical risk foundations.
Each module builds on the last — moving from basic concepts and reading global events, through simple country risk assessment, to writing a short, structured geopolitical risk brief.
What Is Geopolitical Risk?
Core definitions and concepts — how geopolitical risk differs from political, economic, and security risk. Simple frameworks for thinking about power, interests, and geography, and how they shape global events.
Reading the World: Events, Trends & Narratives
How to move beyond headlines — distinguishing events from trends, tracing cause and effect, and spotting the main actors and interests in a story. Practical reading exercises using current international developments.
First Steps in Country Risk Assessment
An introductory country risk lens — basic political, economic, security, and societal factors. Participants learn how to build a simple country profile and identify key sources of risk and resilience.
Signals, Indicators & Simple Scenarios
How to watch for change — introductory work on signals and indicators, basic “what if?” thinking, and simple scenarios. Participants practice sketching short scenario outlines for selected countries or issues.
From Notes to a Risk Brief
Turning observation into analysis — structuring a short risk brief, stating a main judgement, and supporting it with concise reasoning. Emphasis on clarity, plain language, and explaining uncertainty.
Capstone — A Simple Country Risk Brief
Participants produce a short country-focused geopolitical risk brief — choosing a country or issue, outlining key risks, and offering a grounded judgement. Briefs are reviewed against clear, student-level analytical criteria.
Optional Extension
An optional short extension is available for participants who wish to deepen their work — adding a basic scenario, indicators, and a short presentation to their written risk brief.
Certification
Clear recognition for different levels of completion.
Certification level reflects how far participants progress through the program — recognising completion of the core learning path, additional applied work, and outstanding analytical performance.
