Applications are now open for the 2024 IPSC Indo-Pacific Intern Program. IPSC is seeking motivated students and recent graduates to apply for its 2024 Indo-Pacific Intern Program. Interns will have the opportunity to learn about foreign policy issues facing the Indo-Pacific by interacting with and supporting senior scholars and experts and supporting IPSC’s activities and operations.
Eligibility
Be able to intern from March 1, 2024, to June 15, 2024.
Be able to contribute 10 hours per week.
Be a college or university student or recent graduate.
Have a background in international studies or a desire to work in the field.

The 2024 Intern Program will be conducted remotely.
Applications for the 2024 July intern program will open in early June 2024.
The internship is unpaid.
General Internship Program Features
Mentorship: Each intern will be assigned a mentor within their respective branch to guide and support their learning experience.
Training Sessions: Interns engage in training sessions on relevant skills, such as research methodologies, event planning, and communication strategies.
Networking Opportunities: Facilitate networking sessions with professionals within and outside the think tank.
Capstone Project: Interns may work on a meaningful capstone project related to their branch, providing a tangible outcome for their internship.
Feedback and Evaluation: Interns will receive regular feedback sessions and evaluations to help them track their progress and areas for improvement.
Cross-Branch Exposure: There may be opportunities for interns to participate in activities across branches, fostering a holistic understanding of the think tank's operations
How to Apply
The application process is competitive. Applications will be judged based on past relevant academic study and/or work experience. Interns may be invited for an online interview. Candidates must complete the online application form and email a resume, a cover letter, and two writing samples to hugh.tuckfield@indo-pacificstudies.org as a single pdf file. Two writing samples must be contained in the single attachment, following these guidelines:
One sample is no longer than 500 words written within the last six months on a topic relating to international relations or human rights.
One paragraph no longer than 100 words summarizing a previous writing sample. This summary may be your first sample.
Attached writing samples must be written in English. Incomplete applications or applications that do not follow the above guidelines will not be considered. The internship is unpaid. All qualified applicants will receive equal consideration.
Intern Programs
Interns may request to be considered for a program set out below, or they will be allocated to a program based on their skills and experience.
Events and Media Intern Program
Responsibilities:
Assist in planning and organizing webinars, conferences, and events.
Contribute to the creation of promotional materials and social media content.
Promoting IPSC’s research content through international media outlets
Helping operate IPSC social media accounts, particularly Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook
Tracking and recording media coverage and image materials of IPSC and the scholars
Helping to produce digital content to promote scholars’ works, including videos and social media images.
Provide logistical support during events, including virtual sessions and in-person conferences.
Assist in drafting post-event summaries and reports.
Learning Opportunities:
Exposure to event planning and execution.
Hands-on experience with media and communication strategies.
Networking opportunities with speakers and attendees.
Previous experience in international social media, including Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, is highly desirable. Skills and knowledge of videography, photography, content-management systems, and HTML are desirable but not required.
Global Programs and Fellowships Intern Program
Responsibilities:
Assist in managing fellowship programs, including coordination with research fellows.
Support the development of global programs and collaborative initiatives.
Contribute to the planning and execution of professional development sessions.
Assist in tracking and reporting on program impact.
Providing support in the management of the Visiting Research Fellows Program, including team-building events, professional development, and training sessions
Assisting in the development of the Visiting Research Fellows Program and Associates Network, organizing events, and publishing the quarterly newsletter
Learning Opportunities:
Exposure to international collaboration and research initiatives.
Hands-on experience in program development and coordination.
Networking with research fellows and professionals in the field.
Global Relations and Development Intern Program
Responsibilities
Assist in cultivating and stewarding relations with foundations, embassies, and business leaders.
Contribute to fundraising initiatives and grant-writing projects.
Support the management of the development contact database.
Assist in drafting reports and impact assessments.
Drafting a monthly newsletter on business developments related to the IPSC’s development network (including foundations, embassies, multinational corporations, and business leaders).
Supporting the development coordinator in organizing regular virtual events IPSC Advisory Council
Drafting concept notes, grant proposals, and grant reports
Tracking and reporting on programming growth and impact
Managing a database of development contacts and tracking engagement
Prospect research and due diligence reporting on potential donors and partners.
Translating content relevant for communications, events, and research.
Assisting in cultivating and stewarding IPSC’s relations with foundations, embassies, multinational corporations, and business leaders.
Learning Opportunities:

Networking opportunities with potential donors and partners.
Indo-Pacific Analysis and Coordination Intern Program
Responsibilities
Providing research assistance to IPSC scholars and staff
Monitoring developments in the Indo-Pacific includes, but is not limited to, U.S.-China relations, India-China relations, Chinese foreign policy, international affairs in Asia, the role of small powers, coercion by great powers, and human rights.
Compiling topical memos, news briefs, and event summaries
Liaising with the communications team regarding scholar events and publications
Tracking scholars’ monthly activities and drafting activity reports
Working closely with scholars and intern teams to plan and organize scholar events.
Providing logistical and content support for scholars
Identifying and proposing experts for webinar episodes
Preparing expert bios as well as webinar scripts and questions
Coordinating webinar sessions and logistics
Writing post-webinar summaries and transcriptions
Managing webinar marketing and social media presence
Learning Opportunities:
Exposure to geopolitical analysis and research coordination.
Hands-on experience in tracking and reporting on regional developments.
