About Us/

IPSC Fellows

  • The IPSC Fellows provide a forum for doctoral and master’s students, practitioners, and early-career researchers working on topics relating to the Indo-Pacific Study Center’s research programs and to engage with others on issues relating to research and developments in the Indo-Pacific.

  • The IPSC Fellows are open to any researcher registered on a relevant university programme on a relevant topic at the time of application, or those who've completed or are enrolled in a PhD or master’s degree.

  • Fellows are encouraged to attend IPSC events and to take the lead in initiating their own events and projects through the IPSC, for which support may be available. The IPSC will host a remote meeting of Fellows regularly to facilitate networking and engagement.

About the IPSC Fellows Program

Research Programs

  • Fellows can request to join a research program at the Associate Level or as a Junior Fellow and get involved in undertaking research, drafting policy briefs, and preparing submissions to government inquiries and international organizations, including the United Nations charter bodies.

  • Fellows can send an expression of interest to join a research program by completing an application found here.

Colloqiums

  • At our coloqiums (from the Latin word loqui, meaning “to talk"), Fellows and Fellows present a scholarly paper and then answer questions relating to the paper. Written papers are circulated one week before the colloquium, and presentations are no longer than 10 minutes in duration, allowing maximum time for comments and discussion.

  • Chatham House Rules apply to increase the openness of the discussion, especially if sensitive issues are being discussed.

  • The open forums are held monthly in different timezones to meet individual needs.

How to Apply

  • The application process is extremely competitive. Applications will be judged on academic performance, relevant academic study, and/or work experience. Personal interviews may be conducted.

  • Candidates must upload a resume, a cover letter, and two writing samples to the online system. The two writing samples must be contained in a single attachment, following these guidelines:

    • One sample, no longer than 600 words, within the last six months on a topic relating to international relations or security.

    • One paragraph no longer than 100 words summarizing a previous writing sample. This summary can be of your first sample, or it can be of a different piece..

  • Applications that are incomplete or do not follow the above guidelines will not be considered.

Forums

  • An open online space for Fellows and Fellows to introduce themselves to others and share their interests and ideas in a safe zone.

  • The open forums can be for two people or 200 and are facilitated by a coordinator. Chatham House Rules apply to increase the openness of the discussion, especially if sensitive issues are being discussed. The open forums are held monthly in different timezones to meet individual needs.

Workshops and Discussion Groups

  • Workshops and discussion groups are designed by the participants to exchange knowledge and expertise.

  • There are no limitations on the topics that can be discussed or the problems that can be posed to the group.

  • The only limitations are the mutual respect that is expected amongst participants, and the principle of no harm strictly applies.

Build Your Expertise

  • The Indo-Pacific Studies Center is not an academic institution. It is a dynamic organisation made up of dedicated individuals wanting to apply their knowledge in a real-world environment that needs practical solutions to real-life problems.

  • The Indo-Pacific Studies Center is a hub of international and regional expertise and knowledge available for those ready to share and learn.
